Venus moved into Gemini early this (Tuesday) morning, joining The Sun in the sign of the Twins. Master astrologer Liz Greene calls Venus/Aphrodite a "sunlit goddess", as she is extraverted and, in some ways, invulnerable; she hides and withholds nothing about herself or her sexuality. Though she is almost always depicted naked, she is the only Goddess in the Greco-Roman pantheon who is never raped. It's as though the absolute commitment she has to be Herself makes her shadowless; her total self-possession means that there is nothing to reveal or force away from her via confrontation. Her joy in her desire deflates any hard-on not intended for her pleasure. There's no shame to exploit; there's nothing she's not owning.
Gemini is a sign of the mental realms, and like all the Air signs, is about opposing influences. The mind thinks dualistically; light and dark, love and hate, good and not good, etc. In Gemini, Venus's duality is emphasized; She is not only a Goddess of Love, but also of Love's distortion: War. It is She who sets the the Trojan War into motion, being awarded the golden apple by Paris over the 2 other goddesses vying for the same prize; she in turn gives Paris Helen. Perhaps we also will contend with what seems like warring values within us, feeling the need to choose. Gemini is the sign of multiples. We might need to ask our highest inner wisdom what the right medicine is before acting.
Venus opposes Mars this week, her lover. Known as the God of War, astrologically he has to do with desire and the will to fulfill desire. While Venus attracts, he acts toward desire. Each contain the other within themselves, and therefore both compliment and excite the other. An opposition is a hot aspect; the two lovers face one another, able to see the other fully.
This week's astrology could serve to help us see ourselves better via our relationships. There's increased creative and erotic energy and this can serve in powerful ways! Like Venus, it may require us to open to the light of the Sun, bringing clear sight to the shadier aspects of ourselves that keep us closed, and therefore more vulnerable (not less) to hurt from others.
Mars moves into his own original home sign of Scorpio on Friday, bringing the emotional intensity levels up. He will be entering via the master degree of 29. Lilith has also ingressed into the darkest, and perhaps holiest, of signs at the other end, at degree 0. Both planets are at home here in their own ways, and have good work to do for us in terms of cleaning up the energetic frequency of our thoughts and feelings. What we think and feel now creates what is to come! For more about these two going into Scorpio, watch my weekly Nuit Report.
