We are entering a new chapter!
We are getting a ticket to freedom via the dissolving of old ideas and beliefs! What can you find living in your psyche that is holding you back unnecessarily?
There is a big cosmic invitation to get out of any sort of victim mentality that we might be hanging out in. We're not going to be permitted to "wait" for an outside force to change our lives for us. Not unless we really don't want anything new to happen.
Feel powerless in some area of your life? That's great! Therein lie your "working orders" from Saturn! This feeling can point to where it is that you hold an out of alignment belief. Now its your job to investigate what it is that you get out of holding it, and what you might like to replace it with.
Neptune rules phantoms and illusions, and this square with Saturn will expose them. As we get closer to our core beliefs and start poking holes in them, this might bring up anxious feelings. We might feel vulnerable or confused without the armor of "rightness". Or, we might feel performance angst about having to step up to the plate once we stop blaming other people.
Again, this is great news. Each of us has the power to interpret what we are feeling to our benefit or our detriment. How about seeing these changes as exciting new territory? How about seeing negative feelings as evidence of our internal guidance system being in great working order?
How might we be more compassionately and actively responsible toward ourselves? Perhaps the more able we are to have ourselves fully owned and cared for, the better able we will be to extend real compassion toward others as well.
Announcement: I am going to be discontinuing offering a Skype option for readings for new clients after January 1. So, if you would like to meet with me, you can still order that option until Jan 1, but after that date I will be offering Mp3 recordings only!
We humans tend to like certainty. We like to think that we are in charge, and that things are guaranteed. We like retirement plans, 401k's. "good" jobs, degrees--things that make us feel like we've got control. We like to come to "conclusions" and create solid stories about our past; to define and name that which we are "going through right now". We want to feel that there is some sort of landing point at which we get everything under control. A place where we "figure it out" and get everything into balance, at which time everything stays the same.
What if we were to truly absorb the fact that nothing ever stays the same. That there is no "conclusion" to get to, and that stasis isn't meant to be achieved. Not while we're incarnate. Sure, that might create some anxiety, but wouldn't it also just let us off the hook a little? Like, wow, I don't have to try so f*cking hard.
I mean, have you ever noticed that you can't Google a definitive answer on right and wrong? That it isn't written in the sky? (I'm an astrologer, so I've checked.) That maybe there is no "right" that applies to everyone, but only experience, living, and consciousness expansion? And. what was right for us yesterday might not be right for us today.
This Neptune/Saturn square that is applying is calling in the powers of Trickster. These are slippery times. We are just in the introductory phase now, as this square perfects for the first time this week. And the Full Moon on Wednesday activates it, upping the ante and culminating the energies. What if anxiety is actually excitement? What if what we habitually interpret as fear could be felt into and found to be anticipation?
Trickster energies break up old patterns, and bring updated culture into the world. And she has many jokes up her sleeve for us this coming year. The comedy is just getting started.
The Moon is currently transiting Aquarius, and while this might not assist any further with grounding, it could help us gain a friendlier, more open minded and detached perspective. And perhaps a breath of fresh air is needed now.
The Sun and Mercury remain in Scorpio until Friday when Mercury moves into Sagittarius, and the Sun follows on Sunday. The best use of these last degrees of Scorpio energy can come in the form of deep inquiry. Feelings are messages emerging from the water element. Trite or glib responses to things will probably sound out of tune.
Oceanic Neptune changes direction today (Wed). The tide of feeling is changing direction. As Saturn approaches a major first square aspect with Neptune (perfecting next week), there is no mistake that we are collectively experiencing the dynamics between them. Neptune in Pisces (compassion, unity, non-rational trends, collective emotions, veils) squares off with Saturn in Sag (beliefs, "truth", established philosophical viewpoints, cultural traditions). We have moved into what I am calling the Year of the Question Mark.
The more fluid and curious we can be in terms of belief, the easier this transition may be. It really is designed to free us.
"That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracle of the One Thing." --The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus.
The first thing that I wish to say today is that the World is always in "balance". ALWAYS. Even when it does not seem like it, even when it looks like it's "falling apart", even when it seems sad or confusing. It is the very nature of the Universe to be PERFECT. It is we who do not perceive it to be so.
That said, this does not negate any sense of grief at what we perceive to be tragedies in this world. We have every right to feel anything that we are feeling. Pissed, sad, bewildered, closed down, etc.
Some have already tried to explain recent World events with astrology. I thought that astrologer Armand Diaz of Integral Astrology said it well, "...the astrological aspects are neutral - what we do with them is up to us, and such tragedies are the result of human rather than celestial activity.".
I'd also like to respectfully point out that there has been ongoing violence all over the world, and in particular in the Middle East. To try to use astrology to specifically focus on the incident that happened in France could be seen as myopic and Western centric. Why should this incident be expected to have a major astrological configuration to explain it, when these things have been happening to many people in many places? Again, I am not taking away from the gravity of the tragedy in Paris. Having many dear friends and having had precious experiences in Paris, Friday's events have effected me in personal ways.
Saturn in Sag in its square with Neptune may be doing exactly what it is "supposed" to be doing: challenging us to open our minds more broadly and to see from different perspectives. What assumptions about the world need to be inquired into, felt into, and possibly released? What rigid beliefs could be washed away? What does "unity" mean if many are not seen or included in our understanding of that? Open or closed (and when is which appropriate?)
It is human to want to blame, wipe out "evil", be on the side of "good", want to "understand" (or conversely, to insist that we can't possibly "understand"). But I ask us to be careful about what we call "good" and what we call "evil". Question what it is that you really know to be true. When we're confused, we often want to be sure about something, even when we're really not. Research, travel, have discourse, connect, question the media you ingest, learn.
The Serpent energy that was released at the Scorpio New Moon is neutral. It does not differentiate between "good" and "evil". It just IS. The venom of the Snake can be used to harm or heal. It's our choice what we wish to do with that. But it was venom that was released, and as such it brings into consciousness what is wounded and/or poisoned, and what needs medicine. It brings up Shadow, and with it, unconscious belief. Serpent energy is often projected upon as "evil" and scapegoated (think Lilith, Satan, Garden of Eden), but it is necessary for transformation and initiation into the next phase. It is the rising of it, out of the tribally-oriented lower chakras toward the Higher Mind, that brings Enlightenment.
The only thing that we have real power over is ourselves. Each of us is the microcosm of the macrocosm. What we believe about the world outside is a mirror for what we believe about ourselves. Perhaps the most important way that we can manage what is happening in the world is to manage what is going on within ourselves.
"...perplexity in the heart is like war" ---Rumi.
In the the astro-poetic channeled divinatory system of Sabian Symbols, the theme for this New Moon today is: "A Woman Draws Away Two Dark Curtains Closing The Entrance To A Sacred Pathway".
This Moon happens at 19 Scorpio at 12:47pm ET, and it is a powerful one of serpent energy. The venom of the serpent can be used either to heal to to harm. Indeed, Serpent Haired Medusa, upon her death by beheading, yielded poison from the blood on her left side and medicine from her right. But who is to say which is which? Timing and dosage amounts matter. A vaccine can prevent a full-blown illness; a homeopathic dose can cure an ill; too much of a "good" thing can cause many kinds of trouble and imbalance.
This is a New Moon of rebirth. All New Moons are monthly times of renewal, but this one can be called "Lunar Samhain", when the Veil is super thin between worlds. This is a Moon for divination of all kinds. It is a time to look deeply into ourselves and see what must die in order to be reborn.
The beheading of Medusa also yielded Pegasus, the white Winged Horse of poetry and the Muses. In poetry, the saying, "My Pegasus will not go this morning," means that ones creative forces feel stunted. (Yes, this may have some phallic imagery as well. We are dealing with Scorpio, after all, the ruler of the sexual center and the regenerative forces.)
Where might you be hanging on to something toxic that can be purged? What doors within you need to open in order to allow your creative forces to fly? Where in your psyche can the curtains be opened in order to let the light in?
We have a New Moon coming up on Wed the 11th. In Scorpio, it can be thought of as "Lunar Samhain", a very potent time for rituals and magick, especially those that address the inner world.
This New Moon is a great time to retreat and regroup. It's a time to intention set.
Mercury the Messenger God is hanging out closely with Luna for this one. This is the mind in union with the instincts and feelings. It s a good time to write (especially automatic writing or poetry) or to do divination. We are invited to receive messages from the unconscious and the Divine Feminine.
Let what happens within you...happen. See if you can be your own counsel. Trust yourself. Do not speak yet to others of what is within you to make sure that you are "right" in perceiving or experiencing. It dilutes the energies.
Self-trust can be cultivated by being self-loving and self-loyal, which means caring about how you feel. We tend to give feminine modes of intelligence (feelings, physical sensations/Water and earth element) the lowest billing. This would be a great time to practice creating a better balance, and taking a break from favoring thinking and doing (Air/fire). Our higher self guides us through the state of our emotional body.
