Full Moon in Cancer, and Happy 2016!
The Moon goes Full in Cancer on Christmas Day, putting an emphasis on the past. And yet, Uranus, the planet that rules future orientation, awakening and visioning, goes direct on the very same day! Hmmm...what to make of these two seemingly contradictory energies as they happen simultaneously, ushering us into the new calendar year...
We have gone through a lot over these last few years. Saturn in Scorpio right up until as recently as Sept 2015 had us digging deep. We were prompted to do a hell of a lot of Shadow work, purging the personal and ancestral past of that which binds us negatively.
But here's the thing: there is always more Shadow work to do. There is always more healing of trauma; truly, it can be endless. Shadow work itself can become a way to get stuck, forever trying to weed out and bring light to wounds, with the intention of someday being well enough to live without pain...
This Full Moon will bring up the past. We can just about guarantee that. The “Holidays” always do. Family “stuff” comes up, and it can be overwhelming in some cases. We could feel “triggered”. Or, conversely, feel a sense of nostalgia for what used to be, and possibly grief that it is gone. There are many challenges that can come up, even in the most supportive of families. And for those of us without support, fear, loneliness, or memories of heartache or violation can be a serious issue.
Here's where the forward motion piece comes in. Here's where we are challenged to look at things differently.
The astrology of the next few weeks invites us not to attempt to heal everything that comes up, but rather to see it in a new light. To challenge our perceptions of what has occurred. Not in some way that puts us into denial, or forces us to prematurely “forgive” or “make peace”, but in a way that helps us take a new step.
We are NOT our past. We can claim the consciousness that has expanded as a result of our experiences. How might we look at the past in a way that helps us be more today, rather than imagining that we are made less by it? What has it taught us about what we ultimately desire for ourselves, and how might we use this astrological time of forward motion (all the planets!) to imagine what our BEST self might be like? Feel like? Look like? Be experiencing?
January is named for the two faced Roman god Janus. He looks both back into the past, and forward into the future. He is a god of beginnings and transitions. He is the gate. As we move a door into the new calendar year, now is a great time to experiment, play, imagine, project the very best into the “future”. Because really, all things are happening simultaneously, and all time is now. It's what we choose to focus on that gets bigger, and that becomes the world! What world would you like to get bigger?
